We are filled with gratitude and honor to share that the Roxborough Home for Women has been featured on a Liberty Bell replica located at 6172 Ridge Avenue in Roxborough—part of the inspiring “Bells Across PA” project! (See photos below )![]()
A special thank you to Roxborough's own Jax Cusack for bringing this wonderful recognition to our attention!![]()
As part of the Commonwealth’s celebration of the 250th Anniversary of the United States in 2026, the Bells Across PA initiative showcases 108 artist-designed, 3-foot Liberty Bell replicas across all 67 counties—with 22 bells right here in Philadelphia. Our Roxborough community’s bell, located in the Pocket Park on Ridge Avenue, beautifully reflects the history, culture, and spirit of this special neighborhood.![]()
For over a century, the Roxborough Home for Women has been part of that story. Founded in 1887, our Home has deep roots connected to the legacy of the Furness family, one of Philadelphia’s most influential architects, and is tied to the broader network of early founding families, such as Gorgas, Shipley, Rittenhouse, Levering, and Bunting who helped shape our community's and city’s character and compassion. From those early beginnings to today, our mission has remained steadfast—providing a nurturing, dignified home for women in need.![]()
To be represented on this bell—standing as a symbol of freedom, resilience, and community—is truly meaningful. It is a tribute not only to our history, but to the generations of residents, staff, supporters, and neighbors who have made Roxborough Home for Women a place of care, connection, and belonging.![]()
We invite our friends, neighbors, and supporters to stop by, take a look, and celebrate with us this incredible honor!![]()

Our ladies and staff stepped up to the plate on March 26th with a grand slam of a celebration, hosting our very own ballpark-style tailgater right here at home. The lineup was a real crowd-pleaser: classic red hots, peanuts, cracker jacks, and sweet ice cream treats that had everyone cheering from the first bite to the last inning.![]()
The stands (a.k.a. our beautiful Victorian porch) were filled with Phillies pride—red tees, jerseys, and hats as far as the eye could see. It was a picture-perfect spring day, and the team spirit was contagious!![]()
A big league shoutout to Mary, our all-star chief cook, who made sure no one struck out at the snack table, and to Pam and Denise, who truly covered all the bases with festive decorations and plenty of treats for everyone.![]()

Our ladies kicked off the celebrations early last week with an “early-bird” St. Patty’s Day celebration and satisfied the Leprechaun charms on March 17th with an official, festive St. Patrick’s Day luncheon filled with delicious favorites like ham and cabbage, sweet green treats, pistachio pudding, cupcakes, and a variety of fun non-alcoholic beverages. The smiles, laughter, and spirit of the day made it truly special for everyone.![]()
We were also incredibly grateful to receive a generous partial donation toward a new 75-inch flat screen TV—an exciting upgrade that will bring even more comfort and enjoyment to our residents. It is already making a meaningful difference in daily life at the Home.![]()
To top it all off, we enjoyed heartwarming visits from Bella the dog and a new four-legged friend, Tandy. These special visits continue to bring companionship, joy, and plenty of smiles to our community.![]()
